A Meditative Retreat
Silence is the doorway to a receptive presence that unlocks the mystery of nature. Silence is the music of the soul. Not only is the presence of nature unlocked; but so is the mystery of our soul. It is in silence that we feel the miracle of our own being and gain wisdom and the answers to our deepest questions.
My meditation retreats occur in silence. I refer to them as transformative meditative nature retreats. Silence is not just an absence of talking. It is a space of inner quiet that opens us to the subtle and profound teachings of the earth. I find that participants In such quietude attune to the stillness in nature, opening the door to a depth of clarity and insight. At first, participants wonder if they can handle the silence yet toward the end of the retreat, they revel in it.
Whether it is during sunrise and sunset meditations, listening to the soothing sounds of the river, or sitting in the stillness of the trees, we will open to the profound serenity and wisdom of nature. The retreat builds quiet and then there is an extended solo meditation session so that one truly experiences deep silence. The veins of a leaf, the color of a petal, the sound of a bee become heard and seem amplified. In reality, one is hearing what always is there and is missed in the busyness of life.
It is a beautiful thing to be in the wilderness with others, in community, and in a shared silence that is warm, supportive and loving. One walks away with bonds to others and a deep appreciation of the meditative quality nature provides.
